The Chinese Economy Amid The Trade War
Abstract

Dr Jian Guang Shen, Ph.D., is Vice President and Chief Economist of JD Digits. Previously he was the first senior Chinese economist at European Central Bank (ECB), where he took the first position of monitoring and analyzing the Chinese and Asian economies. Dr. Shen was the global and China economist at China International Capital Corporation (CICC), Chief Economist of Mizuho Securities Asia Limited. He also held economist and senior economist positions at the IMF, OECD, and Central Bank of Finland, in addition to being a visiting scholar at PBOC, and was often invited to participate in expert consultation meetings of major economic decision-making departments of the country. 

Dr Shen has extensive experience in macroeconomics and financial research; he is a contributing columnist at all top Chinese financial media, including FT Chinese, Caijing, Caixin, Shanghai Securities Journal and Economics Observers. He was often invited by Chinese Premier and other senior government officials for consultations. In 2018, 2011 and 2015, he was voted Economist of the year by the leading Chinese business network, in addition to being the top forecaster of the year.In recent years, he published "Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges of China's Economy in the New Era" and "What determines China's future?”. Furthermore, Dr. Shen was one of the co-authors of the OECD book “China and World Economy” in 2002. In 2018, his book "Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges of China's Economy in the New Era" was chosen for “Best Chinese Books of the Year” by Yicai-J.P.Morgan Financial Books of the Year.

Biography

Dr Shen is a visiting professor at the School of Economics of Fudan University, the School of International Economics of Fudan University, a member of the 50-member Forum on China's New Supply Economics, a member of the China Chief Economist Forum and the vice president of Muo Gan Shan Institute. He was also visiting professor in the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He held a Ph.D. and a master's degree in Economics from the University of Helsinki, and studied at Fudan University.
