January Distinguished Seminar on recent progress and implication of machine learning for engineering fields

The Distinguished Seminar Series has come to the 5th instalment. On 27 January, Prof Jay H LEE from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) delivered the speech at the distinguished seminar on the topic of “Recent Progress in Machine Learning and Implication for the Process and Energy Systems Engineering Fields”. The seminar was jointly hosted by The School of Data Science and the Hong Kong Institute for Data Science.

Prof LEE shared his thought on the main motivation behind machine learning during the distinguished lecture. He also discussed the advancements in another branch of machine learning called “Reinforcement Learning” and its implication for the fields of process and energy systems. The problem of integrated planning and operation of a hybrid renewable energy network was used to illustrate the potential of the approach.

Prof Lee joined Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2010. He recently served as the Associate Vice President of International Office and is currently serving the role of International Relations Advisor to the President.
