SDSC contributes to EMSD/MTR’s winning award at Geneva Inventions 2023

A consultant team comprising six CityU scholars from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering (ACE) and the School of Data Science (SDSC) won a Silver Medal at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2023, held from 26 to 30 April 2023.

This impactful invention belongs to a joint submission by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and MTR Corporation (MTR). The winning project, entitled “Train-borne Railway Infrastructure Inspection Systems”, is the collaborative breakthrough brought about by six principal investigators from CityU, including Professor Thomas Ng Shiu-tong, Head, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering (ACE); Professor Eric Lee Wai-ming, Associate Head, ACE; Dr. Lam Heung-fai, Associate Professor, ACE; Dr. Luo Xiaowei, Associate Professor, ACE; Dr. Zhang Zijun, Associate Dean, School of Data Science (SDSC); and Dr. Zhao Xiangyu, Assistant Professor, SDSC.

The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva is one of the world’s most prestigious events exclusively devoted to inventions and all entries are evaluated by international specialists. This is the third year running that CityU has received the highest number of awards among local institutions.
