SDSC and HKIDS are delighted to receive Freetech representatives

On 10 March 2021, the School of Data Science (SDSC) and the Hong Kong Institute for Data Science (HKIDS) had a fruitful discussion with Freetech Road Recycling Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. (Freetech) on sharing latest technology on highway maintenance repairing, and explore potential collaborations.  

Visiting guests comprised Mr Banting SZE (CEO), Mr KK CHAN (Executive Director), Mr Chu Lun SO (Senior Technical Manager) and Mr KC KU (Project Manager), while Mr Chan joined the meeting online. 

CityU representatives comprised Prof S. Joe QIN (Chair Professor of Data Science; Dean, School of Data Science; Director, Hong Kong Institute for Data Science), Prof Minghua CHEN (Professor, School of Data Science; Assistant Director, Hong Kong Institute for Data Science), Dr Zijun ZHANG (Associate Professor, School of Data Science; Associate Director, Centre for Systems Informatics Engineering), Dr Qingpeng ZHANG (Associate Professor, School of Data Science) and Dr Yining DONG (Assistant Professor, School of Data Science).

After sharing business overviews with SDSC and HKIDS representatives, both CityU and Freetech shared their research interests and needs after introducing themselves.

“It is an insightful meeting with Freetech representatives.  Freetech is seeking professionals on data collection on temperature change and humidity, as these would affect the investigation and detection results of roads.  Our faculties possess outstanding data collection techniques so we can definitely help Freetech collect meaningful data in an effective way.  We look forward to a long-term collaboration with Freetech.” said Prof Qin. 

“It is excited to meet with SDSC and HKIDS representatives.  We need their ideas and research methodology by incorporating the data science approaches.  We also focus on nurturing the talents on predictive maintenance and repairing. With the insights from academics, I am confident that our investigation and detection technology could be maximized, and our researchers and engineers could learn from academics,” said Mr Banting Sze.
