In memoriam Professor Li Duan

Obituary

It is with great sadness to share that Professor Duan Li, Chair Professor of Operations Research of the School of Data Science (SDSC), passed away on 16 November 2020. Professor Li joined CityU in 2017 as Associate Provost for Strategic Planning and led the taskforce to establish the first School of Data Science in Hong Kong in July 2018. Then he took up the role of Acting Dean of the School until 1 January 2020. 

Under his leadership, Professor Li devotedly promoted SDSC and the Hong Kong Institute for Data Science. Before joining CityU in 2017, Professor Li spent most of his career (1994 – 2017) as a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Professor Li was a caring and loving teacher who was respected by many students and colleagues. His passing is a tremendous loss to SDSC and the greater community of CityU.
